We know firsthand how difficult it can be to find balance in life. That's why we're here every day to give you and your family the resources and support you need.

Across the nation we're 21 million strong, with people of different ages, faiths, and abilities. Locally, we're a force of more than 2,000 dedicated to making ourselves and our community stronger and healthier.

As a new member of the Y family, you'll discover we're about much more than weight rooms, gyms, and pools. Being part of the Y means having a place to gather with new and old friends, spend time as a family, work toward personal growth, and reach out to others. It means helping Red Wing become a better place to live.

We would like to help you start your membership off on the right foot. Please read the following information or schedule an orientation with David Anderson. We look forward to seeing you!

TAKING A TOUR

A tour is the best way to see everything right away, and your guide will answer all your questions. Click here if you'd like a virtual online tour.

To take a walking tour on site, visit anytime during the following hours;
no reservation is necessary.

Tour hours:   Mondays through Thursdays:  8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

                   Fridays:  8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

                   Saturdays:  8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

                   Sundays:  12 to 4 p.m.

CHECKING IN

Whenever you come to the Y, please scan your membership card at the Welcome Desk. All people in the family should have a card; please scan your children's cards if they are not able to on their own. If you forget your card, ask the staff person on duty, and he or she will check you in.

A staff member will always be there to welcome you. In addition, our computer system will sometimes "talk" to you to let you know if you have a message. It may show you've reached your required monthly Y attendance to receive your insurance discount. Other times it will tell you if you need to make a payment.

LOCKERS, LOCKS, AND TOWELS

We have a variety of locker rooms for your convenience: men's, women's boys', girls', and a family room option. All are on the lower floor.

The family locker room includes four private dressing units with a shower and sink. These are handy for families with small children.

Men's and women's locker rooms include a sauna.

You may use any locker you wish but we recommend using a lock. If you forget your own lock, a staff member at the Customer Service Counter will be happy to loan you one.

You can also rent a half locker in the adult locker room to store items such as shoes or toiletries.

Additional lockers are available on the third floor outside the Wellness Center. Again, we recommend you use a lock.

You'll find towels stacked at the Welcome Desk for all adults to use. Smaller workout towels are available in the Wellness Center.  To cut down on waste and improve efficiency, we ask that children please bring a towel from home.

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Classes take place in the Group Fitness Studio located on the third floor across from Gym C. The majority of classes are included with your membership and don't require registration. Come when you can, try as many as you like, and find the ones you like best.

If it's possible, come 5 to 10 minutes before a class and introduce yourself to the instructor.  He or she will answer any of your questions, give you suggestions, and keep an eye on you during class.

Click on the Group Fitness Class Schedules to find current dates and times of classes. Or, stop at our Customer Service Counter for a hard copy.

WELLNESS CENTER

At the Wellness Center you'll find a range of exercise machines, weight machines, and free weights. It also has a beautiful view with huge windows that look over the river and historic depot.

The Wellness Center is open to all people high school age and older.  Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades may also work out here after completing our Teen Strength & Conditioning class.

The Wellness Center also houses a small separate studio. Join a yoga or pilates class here, or if the room is open, use this relaxing place to stretch. You'll also find balls, mats, and other workout items here.

If you're knowledgeable and comfortable with the equipment in the Wellness Center, you may begin using the area right away.  If you're not, we have options for you to learn the equipment and get a safe start to your workout routine. See our Wellness Center section for details.

OTHER PROGRAM LOCATIONS

Lap & Recreation Pool
The Lap and Rec Pools are used for lap swimming, water aerobics classes, swim lessons, and open swim every day.  Click here for pool schedules or pick one up at the Customer Service Counter.

Gyms
Gyms are used for both organized activities and open gym time. Gyms host youth sports programs, gymnastic classes, home school physical education classes, and adult sport leagues. However, we usually keep one gym open at all times so you as a member can use the space at your convenience.

Youth-size basketballs are in the gym for everyone to use. If you're looking for a regulation-size basketball, volleyball, or soccer ball, check one out at the Customer Service Counter.

Walking/Running Track

The track is located above Gyms A & B. Eighteen laps equal one mile.  Walkers should walk on the outside, by the wall. Runners should use the inside lane.  Please follow the policies that are posted on the wall.

Climbing Wall

The climbing wall in Gym C is open twice a week. Click on the Climbing Wall section for details or the schedule to see specific hours.

Racquetball/Handball Courts

The Y has three racquetball/handball courts. Courts may be reserved, but reservations aren't required. Anyone 8 years or older may use the courts.

Drop-in Childcare (Kids' Care and Kids' Gym)

Kids Care is located on the main floor and is open to children ages 6 weeks to 4 years.  Kids' Gym is located on the upper floor and is open for children ages 3 to 7 years. Both rooms are open for childcare at specified hours.

Each room is also open to parents and kids the rest of the day. If you would like to play with your child in the Kids' Gym or Kids' Care room, ask at the Customer Service Counter, and a staff person will open the room.

Click here for more Kids' Care and Kids' Gym information.

WHAT TO DO FIRST?

The best advice is to get involved at the Y right away. Go swimming, play racquetball, or throw some balls around the gym with your kids. Consider these options, as well:

*   Sign up for a Wellness Center orientation.

*  Take a fitness class to learn something new.

*  Sign your children up for swimming, gymnastics, or Gym & Swim.

*  Read the latest program guide for current programs and special events.

*  Ask a staff member at the Customer Service Counter to find out how
to join a league or club such as racquetball, volleyball, or basketball.
