A YMCA membership is about so much more than weight rooms, gyms and pools. It’s about making the community a better place to live. Our goal is for you and your family to: have fun, get together with old friends, make new friends, explore new things, and become involved. If you have additional questions about your membership, contact Sherri Guse, Steve Hanson or David Anderson.
We would like to help you start your membership off on the right foot. Please read the following information or schedule an appointment for an orientation with David Anderson.
Every time you enter the YMCA, please scan your membership card. If you have a family membership, please have your children scan their cards too. If you forget your card, ask the Customer Service Staff on duty to check you in. We recommend that you take a tour of the YMCA if you have not done so. On the tour you will get a feel for the layout of the facility and the tour guide will be able to answer any questions that you may have. Tours are available between 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Monday – Thursday, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on Fridays, and from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm on Saturdays.
Towels are available at the Customer Service Counter for all adults, if you have children please bring a towel from home for them to use. Use any locker in the locker room and we recommend using a lock. If you forgot one, we can lend you one and they are available at the Customer Service Counter. Small lockers are also available outside the Wellness Center. We have adult only (men's and women’s), youth (boys and girls), and a family locker room with four individual dressing/shower units.
Deciding What to Do?
The best advice we can give you is to get involved right away. Take a fitness class, workout in the Wellness Center, go swimming with your children, shoot baskets, or sign up for a program.
Our fitness classes are included with your membership and are on-going. You do not have to register for any class, this way you can try as many as you would like to see which one best meets your needs. JeriLyn Coplan, Wellness Coordinator, recommends you come 5 to 10 minutes before the class and introduce yourself to the instructor. They will answer any questions you might have, give you suggestions and keep an eye on you during the class. If you’re interested in trying a Cycling Class, you can reserve a Cycling Pass at the Customer Service Counter 45 minutes before the class. Tai Chi is the only class that you need to register for and pay an additional fee. Our goal is to be as consistent as possible with our class schedule; however, we sometimes have to make changes. The current Fitness Class Schedule is always on our Home Page or stop at the Customer Service Counter at the YMCA.
If you are knowledgeable and comfortable with the equipment in the Wellness Center, you may begin using it right away. If you are not, we have three options for you.
- Wellness Center Orientation – This hour long orientation is conducted by one of our fitness staff and will show you how most of the equipment works. Wellness Center Orientations are free.
- Safe Start – This is a 12 week program that provide guidance and encouragement to help people develop effective workout routines. You meet with a Personal Trainer to develop a comprehensive fitness plan that includes cardiovascular exercise, full body strength training and stretching exercises. After the initial appointment, you have an opportunity to meet with your Personal Trainer three additional times. The cost is $25 per person.
- Personal Training – The YMCA has 4 certified Personal Trainers on staff. If you are looking to improve your performance in a certain sport, wish to upgrade your workout routine or would like a little personal attention our trainers would love to workout with you. Our Personal Trainers are: JeriLyn Coplan, Wendy Christopherson, and Renae Exner. The cost to work with a Personal Trainer is $40 per hour. Special discount packages are also available.
All three options are by appointment only. To set up an appointment, contact Stephen McKenzie, Wellness Center Assistant Coordinator.
The YMCA offers programs for seniors, adults, teens, young children and families. We publish a Program Schedule in August for our fall programs, in December for our winter/spring programs and in May for our summer programs. They are mailed to all members and are available at the YMCA and on the web site. We also send out a monthly e-mail newsletter, have a news release in the Republican Eagle and post signs around the YMCA announcing various programs.
To register for a program, you can register in person at the YMCA at the Customer Service Counter, over the phone or on-line for most programs. Payment is required at the time of registration if a fee is charged. To register for Youth Swim Lessons, a registration form must be completed and returned before the registration day. Contact Steve Hanson, Membership Services Assistant, if you have any questions on how to register for a program.
Lap & Rec Pool
The Lap and Rec Pools are used for lap swimming, water aerobics classes, swim lessons and open swim everyday. A Pool Schedule is published and is available on our Home Page or at the YMCA to help inform you of what is going on and when each pool is open. Open swim is available in the evenings and on weekends. The water slide is open on Saturday & Sundays during the fall, winter and spring and on week days during the summer.Gyms/Climbing Wall
During the fall, winter and spring the gyms are used for physical education classes, youth sports programs, gymnastic classes and adult leagues. We try to keep one gym open for members to use. Youth basketballs are left in the gym for anyone to use. Regulation size basketballs, volleyball and soccer balls are available to check out at the Customer Service Counter. The climbing wall in Gym C is open during the fall, winter and spring on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons. Anyone age 6 and older may climb, we provide the equipment and staff. The cost is $1.00 per person.Racquetball/Handball Courts
If you are interested in playing Racquetball or Handball, you may reserve a court at the Customer Service Counter. Reservations can be made 5 days in advance and are for one hour at a time. Racquetball Groups (beginner, intermediate and advanced levels) are offered to members who wish to meet new players and improve their game. To join a group, sign up on the bulletin board by the courts. Equipment may be checked out at the Customer Service Counter.Babysitting Service/Kid’s Gym
The Babysitting Service is open to children age 6 months to 6 years of age. It is a drop-in service that is open week day mornings and evenings and on Saturdays in fall, winter and spring. During the summer the service is open in the mornings and a couple of evenings. There is a nominal charge per child. The Kid’s Gym is a room designed for children ages 3 to 7 to play in and have fun. It is staffed week day evenings and on Saturday mornings during the fall, winter and spring and week day mornings during the summer. Families may use the Kid’s Gym together during non-supervised times.
