Wilderness First Responder Courses at Camp Pepin
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format is for individuals and sponsors with less time available for on-site training and requires 25 hours of pre-course preparation.
5-Day Wilderness First Responder Full Certification Course
- May 8-12, 2023
The Wilderness First Responder course is created to provide outdoor leaders and backcountry travelers with the core knowledge and skills necessary to deal with medical and traumatic emergencies in remote settings. It's the most useful first aid course of its kind and is the expected standard for trip leaders and guides by the outdoor industry. The certification is valid for three years. - Materials for pre-course preparation and 45 hours of on-site training
- Bunk-style lodging

3-Day WFR Recert

The Open Recertification course is open to graduates of any wilderness-based first aid training course that was at least 64 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Find full details on the Wilderness Medical Associates International website.

Winterfest 2023
Saturday, January 14, 1-7 pm
YMCA Camp’s Pepin 3rd annual Winterfest is a free, open-house style event. Come and enjoy family-friendly activities throughout the day. Thanks to our event co-host, the Red Wing ELC, for helping to provide outdoor gear and supplies (AND for being the genius behind the ice carousel!). At Winterfest, you can experience:
- Lake Pepin’s largest ice carousel
- Ice skating
- Broomball
- Ice fishing
- Winter birding
- Snowshoeing
- Storybook winter walk with the Red Wing Public Library
- Sledding
- Campfire with s’mores
- Winter-themed arts & crafts
- Winter history & fun with the Goodhue Historical Society
- Astronomy with Mike Lynch, who will be bringing back his GIANT telescope!

Winterfest is a free event and open to all. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to YMCA Camp Pepin and the Red Wing ELC. A chili dinner will be available for purchase in the Dining Hall. $8 per adult and $6 per child.
