Dear YMCA Community Member,
Generations have cultivated values, developed skills and built relationships. As we look to the future and discern what will be ‘required of us’ to continue to nurture lives and serve as the gap-filler in this community, we look back and celebrate the work of those who came and served before us.
This year, we celebrate our 150th anniversary in this fine community … a community richly endowed by immigrant entrepreneurs, hard-working families and a collective desire to help our neighbors … whoever that might be.
In commemoration of this milestone, we pause to remind our generous supporters of the nurturing tradition you’ve enabled us to offer:
Youth Sports — to all children in the area.
Emphasis on fun — vs. competition.
Teambuilding and sportsmanship — our signature characteristic.
Strengthening – of mind, body and spirit.
Quality family time – vs. screen time.
Mike likes to say, “Your dues operate the facility, but your gift changes lives.” This is so very true. And we all can take stock in this sentiment.
Steve Jobs famously said, “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are those ones who do.”
The bottom line is, the YMCA can – and does – give new life to children through the opportunities and lessons taught to our youth, whether it’s at camp, during swim lessons, gymnastics, in a YMCA softball league or in a casual conversation with a staff member. Our model, our ethos, our DNA of being A Great Good in our community is working. Help us to continue by not just supporting us, but by increasing your gift. We do not look at this as fund-raising, but instead as people-raising. That’s what we do … because of you.
Yours in partnership for a better Red Wing,
Conor Smyth, Liz Knapp, & Susan Langer
